Say “cheese!” Putting your association photos to work for you.
Posted on August 27, 2010 by Linda Woody
Many organizations hire professional photographers to record meetings and events. This can become a costly expense, so what can your organization do to reduce the price tag and take advantage of those pictures captured?
In addition to using the photos in traditional ways, check out this list for other ideas on how your organization can put the photos to work for you!
1. Distribute the photos immediately on-site to media outlets in the form of a photo caption to highlight the conference speakers and unique sessions.
2. Post photos to a Flickr account, and share the link in your association e-newsletter.
3. Encourage event attendees to populate the online photo album with their own pictures taken on-site, as well as pre- and post-conference.
4. Photos can tell a story. Many photographers maintain “365” blogs, to which they post one new photo each day to document a story.
5. Photos from previous years’ conferences can be printed and used as a “Hall of Fame”.
6. Photos can be printed, framed and used as table decorations.
7. Create and sell memory books or an association yearbook.
8. Print photos on thick posterboard with key messages, and place on easels.
9. Encourage attendees to get involved and snap pictures with their phones or cameras. Photos can then be texted during the event to event organizers, and uploaded to projection or TV screens throughout the conference.
10. Include photos in e-blasts throughout the year. Leave the individuals unidentified, and award a prize to the first person who writes back to the association with the correct ID. This helps to make emails interactive, and provides motivation to read the blasted emails.
11. Post photos to social media outlets such as Twitter, Facebook or for your own association blog. You can check out some of our current associations do a great job in this area, including the Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association (JPMA), the National Association of Professional Pet Sitters (NAPPS) and the Association of Medical Media (AMM).
